MY FILM: Among the Fallen

MY FILM: Online Premiere Announcement!

Here's a late Halloween treat for you horror hungry bastards out there. I'm going to be uploading my entire first film, Among the Fallen, in a matter of hours to the site!

If you've been interested in seeing the final film, now is your chance. It's a very abstract and surreal film, but hopefully many of you will come away digging it. Here's the synopsis for the film to refresh your memory and stay tuned for the online premiere.

SYNOPSIS

Among the Fallen is a compellingly deep film that delves into the unexplored inner workings of the human mind, by balancing both the physical and mental horrors that a person experiences when dealt a horrible loss of a loved one, and combines that with the gruesome visual decadence of a zombie film. Combining the reflective aesthetics of art-house cinema with the gory and primitive nature of zombie films, Among the Fallen brings about an original story of a grieving writer named Will Ashford, as he struggles to come to terms with the tragic death of his wife and unborn child.

Breaking off from the rest of the world, Will journeys to a secluded cabin to both finish his novel and cope with his depression. It is here that Will must battle his inner and outer demons as he descends into a downward spiral of haunting memories, ravenous creatures, and startling truths. With its violent nature and uncompromising portrayal of a man struggling to survive both bittersweet memories of what once was and an onslaught of mysterious watchers that begin appearing in the surrounding woods, Among the Fallen is a heavily atmospheric film drenched in zombie lore.

Gathering inspiration from such filmmakers as Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, and George Romero, the film combines a plethora of unconventional themes to create an unorthodox and surreal zombie story with a human soul and a lot of bite.

Get ready to kick some zombie ass!

MY FILM: Among the Fallen Premiere

Well it's a mere 6 days away from the premiere of my first film, Among the Fallen, and I'm nervous as all hell. The movie will be playing at the Cinema Wasteland Show in Strongsville, Ohio on October 1st and I'm really hoping that people get the flick or that they are at least entertained by it.

Our small tight knit crew of friends and acquaintances put a lot of effort into the film, working long cold and bloody nights, all for the payment of a few McDonald's cheeseburgers. The fact that they stayed with the production over the years and never gave up on the final film, or me, really speaks wonders for their determination and trust to the story that I was crafting. I couldn't have asked for a more dedicated and selfless crew. Hopefully horror fans outside of our little circle can appreciate the demented little tale that we have created and be swept away within this intimate and surreal zombie film.

I've just finished the flyers for the Cinema Wasteland show and the upcoming Eerie Horror Film Festival event, so check them out below. If you're in the area of either event or already have tickets, stop on in and check the flick out. I can't wait to unleash this film onto the public and see what they think, yet my nerves are still shaky at the prospect of putting such a personal film out there for all to see. What the hell... you only live once.

Hey everyone. I just received some great news that my film will be playing at the Cinema Wasteland Show this October. This will be the film's first introduction to the public, so I'm pretty excited and kind of nervous seeing that it's just a little over a month away.

There's tons of stuff to do and other great films to check out, so stop on by. Hopefully, I'll see some of you there and get a chance to hear your reactions on the film. Can't wait!

MY FILM: First Review for Among the Fallen

Hey everyone. I'm here with a quick but substantial update on the progress of my film, Among the Fallen. I've just been informed that the first review for the film has just been posted up on the zombie film site, Zombie Movie Database.

Since this was my first feature film and the first time being reviewed, I had some fears that the vision of my film wouldn't be understood by anyone outside of my circle of friends, but it appears that my fears can be put to rest. I don't think I could have asked for a better review. I'm really looking forward to the film's premiere in October now when it is presented at the Eerie Horror Film Festival in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Well stay tuned for more reviews and updates for Among the Fallen as they come my way.

MY FILM: Among the Fallen IMDB Page

Hey everyone. Just a quick, interesting, and unexpected update on my film, Among the Fallen. The movie has officially been given an IMDB page, so check it out.

It's pretty nuts to see the film up there next to some pretty stellar company and it's nice to be able to give people another way to find the film. There's a few more things I need to tweak on the page and credits I need to post, but for the most part it's up in all its glory.

MY FILM: Among the Fallen Preview

Hey everyone. I'm back again with another update on my film, Among the Fallen. I've got a series of four scenes to show off and they represent some of the various locations and looks of the film. It should give you a good idea of the quality of the movie and the overall atmosphere that I was going for in the whole piece.

First off, is a scene early in the film where our main character Will Ashford first comes into contact with one of the strange watchers that plague the story. A zombie demon hybrid of sorts, the quiet strangers progressively begin to drive Will insane until he finally succumbs to a savage retaliation while fighting for his survival and his very soul.

After surviving the night, Will tries to escape from the Watchers and their soulless and ever watchful eyes. Setting off down a never ending road, he finds that leaving this nightmare is easier said then done when some unseen entity begins hunting him.

Finding out that no matter how hard he tries to escape, Will discovers that every road seems to work its way back to the cabin. Fearing that he has to spend another night under the decrepit gaze of the Watchers, he prepares for a long and bloody night of terror. The Watchers, once docile and complacent, quickly turn into ravenous beasts thirsting for nothing but Will's own flesh. Barricading himself into a back room, Will struggles to hold back the oncoming zombie horde.

Finally, as Will reaches his boiling point. He begins to fight back against the bloodthirsty menace, using any and everything to cut down the numbers of these insurmountable foes. It's going to be one bloody night.

Well I hope you enjoyed this little preview and I also hope it gave you a little more information on what to expect when the full film is later premiered. As always, all comments, questions and criticisms are welcomed and thanks for checking out the videos.

MY FILM: Among the Fallen Trailer

It's time for another update on my film, Among the Fallen. This time I've got the final trailer for you and it seems that my five year journey with this film is finally coming to a close. I tried to keep the trailer as mysterious and surreal as possible so not to give too much away about the film and at the same time peak people's interests into wanting to dive into this interesting story.

The trailer runs just over two minutes long, but it's packed with some interesting imagery that clearly defines what you're going to get with this film. Well, let's get right down to it and check out the trailer. Let me know what you think because all criticisms and comments are more then welcome. Thanks for checking it out. Enjoy.

MY FILM: Among the Fallen DVD Art

Hey everyone. I've got some more updates on the status of my first feature film, Among the Fallen. I have just finished putting together the DVD cover artwork, for when I mail out a few copies to a couple local horror film festivals, and the final look of the layout turned out pretty wicked.

As for the film, everything is edited, the sound is complete, all the music has been composed and placed, and all I'm doing now is tweaking with various output settings to see what result looks the best for the final look of the film. It looks like the film should be done within a few weeks. I'll be doing some viewing of the movie over the weekend with a handful of friends to see if there's any problems that need ironed out, but at the moment the end is in sight. Well, enjoy the images below and feel free to comment, critique, and relay your impressions of the artwork. Opinions are welcomed.

MY FILM: Among the Fallen Synopsis

I've recently written up an official synopsis for my film Among the Fallen, as I get closer to finishing and then eventually releasing the movie. The summary gives a relatively straight forward idea of what the film is about and what my inspirations were in creating the final piece. I thought I'd just pass this along for those of you who are a little bit curious on what the film is about. Enjoy and there's more info and updates to come.

AMONG THE FALLEN: SYNOPSIS

Among the Fallen is a compellingly deep film that delves into the unexplored inner workings of the human mind, by balancing both the physical and mental horrors that a person experiences when dealt a horrible loss of a loved one, and combines that with the gruesome visual decadence of a zombie film. Combining the reflective aesthetics of art-house cinema with the gory and primitive nature of zombie films, Among the Fallen brings about an original story of a grieving writer named Will Ashford, as he struggles to come to terms with the tragic death of his wife and unborn child.

MY FILM: Among the Fallen End Credits

As promised, here is the end credits sequence to my film Among the Fallen. Not too many people were involved in the production, but the few demented souls that did participate did an amazing job. Topped with the fact that we all did it for no money and just invested our own time into the production, speaks volumes for our dedication to bring something of our own to the world of cinema.

The end credits sequence went through a few stages before we found our end design and it was merely by accident that we finally came to the final result. It was initially going to be shown as the typical black background and white scrolling text, but was then changed when the closing montage of images during the final moments of the film seemed to hold the right ingredients to contain the credits.

The idea for the closing moments of the film was conceptualized by myself and then filmed by Kevin Mitchell. With just a two man crew, we went about shooting the scene,  setting up all the photos and blood and then proceeded to film the sequence on the fly. This allowed for Kevin's creative muses to take over and free form the pacing of the sequence, feeling it out as he went. Then in post, I applied a few color gradients over the footage to give it a prismatic color palate and make it more visually distinct. Finally, Trey Sargent then composed a haunting musical track to accompany the flow of the sequence and by following the vivid imagery and blurry nature of the sequence, we ended up having a rather interesting closing moment to the film.

Seeing that the sequence was a perfect moment for us to forgo the traditional scrolling text for the end credits, Scott Martin one of the producers of the film, thought it would be interesting to put the credits over the closing montage of the film because it tended to drag on a bit and the overall look of the scene was rather dreamlike and surreal. Thankfully, we went that route and came up with a rather unique way to display all the names of the people who made this film possible.

The sequence ended up turning out better then I had expected and it made for a perfect ending to the film. So without further ado, here is the end result in all it's glory. Enjoy.

MY FILM: Among the Fallen Stills

It's been a while since I talked about my first feature film, Among the Fallen, which has been in production for a ridiculous amount of years, but I've got a first of many updates on the progress of my film. I've finally decided to finish this bad boy off, so I'm staying focused and concentrating all of my efforts on wrapping everything up. The film is about 90% complete and I just have a few things left to iron out, like a few musical tracks and a handful of sound effects to create.

Hopefully I'll be seeing the end of the road on this production soon, and with some luck, be able to showcase it off at a few of the local horror conventions and film festivals in the area. Well, for your viewing pleasure, here's a shitload of stills from the film that give a great example of the style and imagery of this surreal zombie flick. Enjoy and keep a look out for the end credit sequence that I've just finished over the weekend. I'll be posting it later tonight.

The start of a very messed up day.
It's one of those sassy zombies. Talk to the hand!
What a beautiful place for a zombie uprising.
Scott gets caught laying down on the job.
Welcome to the cabin of DOOM!
Clean up on aisle six.
I reenact the horror of walking in on my parents.
Damn these energy efficient light bulbs!
Now Pat takes a moment to rest.... in peace.
Extra! Extra! The Dead Walk!
Let me give you a hand.
I take a break to gather my wits.
What kind of creep walks around with a lantern?
Pat plays a good walking corpse.
Peek a boo you fucks you.
Just getting some exercise in on the road of death.
Doc's zombie rises from the depths.
Man this shot bites!
I'm disgusted at what I see... The crew demanding they get paid.
And I ran.... I ran so far away.
Bloodied and beaten, I carry on with the filming.
Scott gets axed. Oooh that's gotta hurt!
Old man Peabody used to own all this land as far as the eye can see.
I get ready to bring the pain.
The saddest zombies in the world.
Don't go into the long grass! Don't go into the long grass!
What's that pervert looking at?
Pat gets up, close, and personal with the camera.
Me wondering if this film will ever be finished.
There's no saving that shirt buddy.
Look into the eyes of a maniac.
Find anything yet? We ain't find SHIT!
Time to kill some zombies.
When boy meets chainsaw.
Hey Mike.... SCREW YOU!!!!!!!!
Taking a break after a night of zombie slaying.
This is the Christmas gift that's supposed to knock my socks off?
It seemed like such a peaceful place.
